What is content?

When talking about ECM, Content plays an important role. So, What is content? - A logical capsule containing any piece of Information/Data that can be Captured, Processed(Read Create, Edit, Managed), Stored, Archived and Delivered. The important aspect of content is it can thrive independently or with the support of other content making it more usable to the target audience.


Ok, Why should I so bothered about content? 
In today's technological world, content is the nucleus of all business. Right from a $2 coffee to million dollar diamonds.

So how does ECM support business at each level?
Lets take a banking example,

1. All the customer application data can be automatically captured and stored in digital format with minimal to no human intervention. ECM Concept - Capture 
2. Based on the customer browsing pattern, banking products can be recommended. ECM Concept - Targetting,Analytics
3. Account summary from bank to account holder . ECM Concept - Customer Communication Management
4. Account holder information has to be stored. ECM Concept - Document Management, Records Management and Archiving.
5. Online banking experience. ECM Concept - Content Managemnt, Web Content Management, Customer Experience Management.
6. At Back office, after application submission, it has to be validated and then appropriate actions has to be taken. To streamline these kind of series of business process workflows are used. ECM Concept - Business process management.

There are several other ecm concepts and branches persist or being introduced in evolving ECM Space.

I will try to continue to explain more about ecm and ecm tools in upcoming series of posts.
